The ice-cool Aussie has developed into one of the game's leading lights after making the big breakthrough with victory in the 2006 US Open at Winged Foot. Ogilvy tends to win big when he puts a '1' on the board and as well as that first major victory he's also added three WGC wins - two in the Accenture Match Play where he beat Paul Casey in this year's final. Ogilvy kicked off 2009 with a runaway victory in the Mercedes Championship so he's certainly one of the big players in the season so far, even though he's disappointed in both the Masters and US Open and was cut at the Open Championship for the third year running. However, he has a more than solid USPGA Championship record and had three consecutive top-10 finishes between 2005 and 2007. Was never really in the hunt at Oakland Hills last year as he finished down in 31st and you get the feeling that Ogilvy is about due another good run in a major tournament. He heads to Hazeltine in decent form having performed solidly at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational last week before falling away rather with a three-over-par final round of 73 that left him down in a tie for 22nd - and that at a Firestone course he made no secret of his dislike for via his Twitter page. But interestingly it was not just Firestone that came in for some stick from the Australian, with Ogilvy saying of the 7,674-yard Hazeltine lay-out: "We have the longest par 3, par 4 and par 5 in PGA history next week. All in a 4 hole stretch! Sounds like fun." And also: "Looking forward to playing a major one day that does not promote itself as the longest ever." If he's on form Ogilvy has to enter calculations, but his backers will be hoping the 32-year-old can develop some love for Hazeltine in the days ahead.
