Four years ago Ross Fisher was playing on the Europro Tour at Wensum Valley. Four weeks ago he was finishing fifth in the US Open at Bethpage Black. That's some journey; one he can now afford to make in a Lamborghini rather than a Renault Clio. His performance in the US Open was mightily impressive and had TV commentator Butch Harmon drooling. If he had holed any putts of more than six or seven feet he might easily have become the first British winner of the event since Tony Jacklin - his long game was that good. Very little tour golf is played on links courses but the KLM Open is and it was Fisher's debut win in 2007 at Kennemer. He confirmed his liking for seaside golf when narrowly losing a play-off at the end of season Dunhill Links Championship. So we know he can play links golf and we know he is in form and we now know he can shine in the majors. What's stopping him? Well, possibly the birth of his first child. His wife Joanne is due to go into labour during Open week and Fisher is in no doubt: "Whenever he or she comes, I'll be there. I'm married to Jo and family comes first."
