Stricker has been around for a long time now, but is playing some of the best golf of his life at present. The Wisconsin native's most successful year on tour came in 1996, while in 1998 he finished in the top-five at the US Open and then runner-up in the USPGA. But his career tailed off rather in the years that followed, that was until a stellar 2006 season that yielded seven top-10 finishes, earning him the PGA Tour Comeback Player of the Year. He has maintained his form over the past couple of years, establishing himself as a fixture in the world's top 20. But he has raised the bar again in 2009 and already has six top-10s to his credit including a tie for sixth at The Masters and a play-off victory in the Crowne Plaza Invitational at the end of May. Third in the FedEx Cup rankings and up to eighth in the world rankings, Stricker is bang in form and has experience and temperament on his side should he get into a position to contend. The 42-year-old was tied for 16th last time Bethpage Black hosted the US Open in 2002 and looks like a decent outsider.
