Johnson was taught a harsh lesson on debut at Augusta when he went for every putt, shot 81 and was rebuked by his caddie who said: "Zach, you don't try to make putts here, you try to two-putt - and if they go in it's a bonus." Two years later he won the 2007 Masters using a radical strategy of laying up on every par five, looking to make birdie with a high-quality short game. With a calm head, sound advice and a strong tactical approach Johnson is well-suited to the modern Augusta test, even if his driving is a little on the short side. He also adores playing in the state of Georgia: in addition to his win here, he has two wins at Sugarloaf and was runner-up in the 2007 Tour Championship at East Lake. In the last six months he has added two PGA wins outside Georgia to his CV and arrives at Augusta after finishing third at Bay Hill. He looks primed to go close.
