There is a feeling that Furyk's very best days might be behind him, although the 38-year-old from Pennsylvania remains a highly consistent performer. Having been a permanent fixture in the world's top-10 between 1999 and 2008, he has now slipped out of that elite band, due largely to his inability to win in recent times. The American's last victory was over 18 months ago, but he still managed nine top-10 finishes last year - including fifth at the Open Championship. He looked to be running into form this season as he ended up third at the WGC-CA Championship and shot an opening round of 65 to take the early lead at the Transitions Championship the following week. But a subsequent 78 saw him finish well off the pace and having missed the cut at Bay Hill he heads to Augusta short on form. His Masters record does boast two fourth-place finishes and a sixth, but none of those came after 2003 and last year he was tied for 33rd. Furyk's pedigree means he cannot be discounted and he's likely to remain an each-way favourite at the majors for many, but it would now come as something of a surprise if the man with the loopy swing were to walk away with the green jacket.
