Having signed off a difficult 2009 in the perfect fashion on the course with victories at both the Tour Championship and the HSBC Champions event in Shanghai, the 2010 season almost couldn't come quick enough for Phil Mickelson. Indeed, he said after that win in China: "I'm excited about 2010 because I'm starting to play the best golf of my career. Everything is starting to come together as far as my driving is concerned. Since working with Butch Harmon my ball-striking has been much better. My short game is better than it's ever been and going into 2010, not only am I excited about it, but I have very high expectations." But things have not gone as Mickelson would have wanted so far this year, and after six events he has just a solitary top-ten finish to show for his efforts. As ever, the American has showed flashes of brilliance and he is undoubtedly hitting the ball further than ever before, but consistency off the tee, on the greens and in between is still eluding him. However, no-one can doubt his record amongst the dogwood and azalea: two wins and another ten top tens from his last 14 starts. If his game comes together he could easily add a third green jacket to his collection.
