Spain's Alvaro Quiros admits he is fearful that a wrist injury could scupper his hopes of making a Ryder Cup debut for Europe next year.

The 28-year-old has been troubled by the injury for the past few months but has been putting off having surgery during one of the most busy periods of the year.

He was forced to pull out of last week's Vivendi Seve Trophy but is hoping he can manage the problem until the end of the season.

"We are dealing properly with it," he told Sky Sports News. "I think I'm going to need surgery and hopefully I can finish the season.

Bad timing

"For any sportsman an injury always arrives at the wrong time but I have to deal with it, any injury that a sportsman gets has to be fixed - simple as that."

However, Quiros - who won the Dubai Desert Classic in February - revealed that the inevitable surgery is likely to sideline him for up to five months when he does go under the knife.

With the race for Ryder Cup points already underway, he concedes that missing such a large chunk could seriously harm his chances of qualifying for the 2012 European team.

"This is what worries me most," he said of the Ryder Cup. "The doctor says between three and a half and five months [out of action], it's a long time obviously."
