In that year he made the semi-final of the WGC World Matchplay, finished second in the BMW PGA Championship, finished 30th on debut in the Masters, 19th in the PGA Championship, threatened to win both the US and British Opens, and ended the year by claiming the Volvo World Matchplay Championship. In comparison 2010 was looking like a disappointment until he finished second in Germany, then turned to a new caddie and suddenly found himself winning the Irish Open. All of a sudden the big-hitter looks like a threat again. Having proved himself a superb match player, captain Montgomerie will be keen to use him all week. His long, straight game should be well-suited by Celtic Manor's 2010 course.
