Justin Leonard

USA

Player details
Name Justin Leonard
DOB June 15, 1972
Nationality American
Birthplace Dallas, Texas
Height 5ft 11
Weight 170lb
The 36-year-old Texan will always be remembered for that 45-foot putt on the 17th green at Brookline and the infamous scenes that followed. The American team and their (stilleto-shod) WAGS disgracefully sprinted on to the putting surface to celebrate 'winning' the cup even though Jose Maria Olazabal had a putt to halve the hole and keep Europeean hopes alive. The 1997 Open champion has not played Ryder Cup since then but his career has undergone a renaissance over the last couple of seasons and he is back on the team after qualifying sixth. He has won once this season but has six top 10s and has missed just one cut in 21 starts. A consistent performer, his record over two matches in 1997 and 1999 is poor but it is so long since his last appearance, predicting how he will go this year is almost impossible.
