Dustin Johnson won't ever forget the 2010 season. He began it by claiming a third PGA Tour title at Pebble Beach and next time he found himself on the Monterrey Peninsula he lead the US Open by six shots with 18 holes to play. It seemed he was on the brink of becoming America's latest golfing superstar. At which point his thrilling style let him down. He continued to smash huge drives and unleash fearless approaches but the aim was now awry and he slipped backwards, allowing steady playing partner Graeme McDowell to pinch the crown. Two months later he was in the final group again, chasing PGA Championship leader Nick Watney who promptly collapsed in much the same style Johnson had done and this time the 26-year-old South Carolinan looked set to win - only for an errant drive, a secret bunker and a two-shot penalty to dash his hopes in horrible fashion. As awful as those memories might be, they do prove one thing - Johnson is good enough to get into the mix regularly at the top table (he has now finished T14 or better in four of the last five majors) and although he is making his Ryder Cup debut he was part of the victorious US Walker Cup team in 2007.
