An impressive winner of the Memorial Tournament earlier in the summer, Rose then proceeded to trounce the field in the Travelers Championship for 54 holes of his next start only to shoot 75 in the final round and fall backwards. Many thought it was a case of Rose returning to type, such was his reputation for being flaky on a Sunday. But he remained calm and just one week later defeated a high quality field at the AT&T National. During the final round of that event he did three-putt the 10th and 11th holes but he soon recovered his poise and those mistakes were notable for being his first three-stabs for 274 holes - the longest streak on the PGA Tour. It proved that his game was in superb shape because what no-one has doubted is the quality of his ball-striking. He missed the cut at Whistling Straits in 2004, but does have a top 10 in this event, at Oakland Hills in 2008.
