Ko wins Canadian Open
Lydia Ko defeated Stacy Lewis in a sudden-death play-off to win her third Canadian Pacific Women’s Open in Vancouver on Sunday.
Ko triumphed over Lewis on the first play-off hole after making a par while Lewis could only manage a bogey.
The world number two, who previously won the tournament in 2012 and 2013, began the day in a share of the lead with Candie Kung. A birdie at the third hole helped the 18-year-old carve out a three-shot lead, but a bogey at the ninth saw her take the turn on level par for the day.
A run of nine consecutive pars on the back nine saw the field close in on Ko, with the Lewis the one able to reel in the New Zealander. Lewis’ round of five-under-par 67, which consisted of six birdies and a bogey, saw her draw level with Ko on 12-under.
However, Ko emerged victorious in the play-off to win her eighth LPGA Tour title and third of the year, with her two previous victories coming at the Swinging Skirts LPGA Classic in April and the Australian Women’s Open in February.
Meanwhile, defending champion So Yeon Ryu finished on 11-under and in a tie for third with South Korean compatriot Sei Young Kim after a fantastic final around of eight-under-par 64 which saw her surge up the leaderboard after an indifferent start to the tournament.
World number one Inbee Park finished in a tie for ninth after a closing round of 70 saw her finish on eight-under, four shots off the pace.
