Faldo: St Andrews will tame Tiger
Nick Faldo believes Tiger Woods has virtually no chance of winning his 15th major title at the Open Championship at St Andrews in July.
Wood has shown major improvements at the Greenbrier Classic in West Virginia this week, carding scores of 66, 69 and 71 to head into round four tied for 47th place on four-under.
Just four weeks ago Woods carded an 85 to record the worst ever of his professional career in any round.
Despite the improvements, Faldo believes that Woods’ erratic swing would still hamper him at St Andrews.
“When Tiger is under pressure, (his swing) is a completely different speed,” Faldo said while commentating for CBS TV.
“There are plenty of pressure tee shots at St. Andrews to avoid the gorse and put it in the right places.
“Under pressure he doesn’t like certain shots and he’s unable to deal with them. That is the mind game. Put him under pressure and then the tempo is completely different.”
The six time major winner added that one of the major problems with Woods’ redesigned swing was that he was holding his head too low.
