Langley leading the way
Scott Langley has a slender one stroke lead after the opening round of the Greenbrier Classic in West Virginia on Thursday.
The American carded a sizzling eight under 62 on The Old White TPC for a one shot lead over fellow countryman Jonathan Byrd and New Zealand’s Danny Lee.
Rain helped soften the course allowing Langley and the rest of the field to take advantage. His flawless round included four birdies on the front nine and four more on the back nine.
Langley, who is still looking for his maiden professional win, was tied with friend Byrd on the 16th tee before he rolled in his final birdie to edge ahead.
It has not been a year to remember for the Illinoisan, as he has missed six cuts in 18 starts with no top ten finishes.
“I got a little down on myself earlier in the year because the results weren’t really there,” the 26-year-old told ESPN.
“I kind of looked at myself in the mirror and said, you know, at the end of the day, I need to be the most positive guy in the field week in and week out.”
Also in the hunt after a pair of 64’s are Japan’s Ryo Ishikawa and Brian Davis of England. Fresh off his win at the Travelers Championship, world number three Bubba Watson carded a three under 67.
However, the big news of the day was made by none other than Tiger Woods. The former world number one inspired to shoot a four under 66, which is his best professional round since March 2014.
