Faldo confirms final Open

Sir Nick Faldo revealed that he will play in his final Open Championship in July this year.

The 2015 edition of the Major is set to be held at the iconic St Andrews course in Scotland, commonly known as the home of golf.

It is also the course where the Englishman picked up his second of three Open Championship titles in 1990.

“The Open and St Andrews will forever hold a significant place in my heart,” said the 57-year-old on BBC Sport.

“My fondest moments on my journey with this great sport are woven with pictures and emotions in this setting. It all means a huge amount to me.”

Meanwhile, Peter Dawson, the chief executive of the Royal and Ancient, heaped praise on the six time Major winner.

“Sir Nick Faldo is an inspirational figure in British golf and has enjoyed a remarkable career in the Open,” said Dawson of the former world number one.

“I’m sure there will be great anticipation among the galleries at St Andrews to see him play in the Open once again and he will receive a rousing ovation worthy of a great champion.”

The 144th Open Championship tees off at the Old Course at St Andrews on July 16.
