Furyk wins RCB Heritage via playoff
Jim Furyk edged Kevin Kisner in the second hole of a playoff to win the RCB Heritage in dramatic fashion on Sunday.
The veteran carded a scintillating eight under 63 in the final round, but Kisner rolled in a birdie on the final hole at the iconic Harbour Town Links course to force a playoff.
Kisner put pressure on the former US Open winner when he drained a birdie on the first extra hole, but Furyk responded with one of his own, sending play back to the 17th tee.
Both Americans landed on the par three green and Kisner putted first, narrowly missing his birdie attempt. Furyk stepped up and sank a 12-footer for his first win since September 2010, cueing an intense celebration.
“I think getting excited on 17 there was a lot of pent-up frustrations,” revealed the 44-year-old on ESPN.
“I was starting to feel like this game is beating me up, and the losing hurts a lot more than winning…winning feels good. I think I just forget how good.”
Troy Merrit, the overnight leader, would finish two strokes behind the leading pair after closing with a two under 69.
Brendan Todd would be a further shot behind while Matt Kuchar would finish by himself in fifth place.
South African Brendan Grace, who tied for seventh, was the first non-American and Masters winner Jordan Spieth would settle for tied 11th after a one under 70, which disappointed those who bet on sport and backed him to do better.
