Wie set for home comforts in Hawaii
Michelle Wie hopes home advantage will count in her favour as she bids to retain the Lotte Championship title in Hawaii.
Last year, Wie ended a four-year winless streak at the event before going on to claim her maiden major victory at the US Women’s Open.
This year, she faces a strong field which includes former winners Suzann Pettersen and Ai Miyazato.
“I love coming back home, I look forward to this event all year,”¿ Wie said. “Last year a dream really did come true for me.
“Growing up here to play a lot of junior tournaments, Hawaii tournaments, it has always been my dream to win at home in front of my friends and family.
“It’s always fun to defend, so I’m happy to be back. I’m just trying to take it easy and have fun. I think the key for me is just not to look too far into the future and not put too much pressure on myself.”¿
South Korea’s Inbee Park is the highest-ranked player in the field, as World No 1 Lydia Ko and world No 2 Stacy Lewis are both sitting out the event.
Park’s form hasn’t been as spectacular this season as it has been in previous years, but she is still pleased with her recent performances.
“I feel good about this season,”¿ Park said. “I’ve been playing very consistent, but obviously I had great success on the golf course.
“It’s a great place and a great tournament. I had good results the last couple years, and hopefully I have another good one this year.”¿
