Lee leads at Kia Classic
South Korea’s Mirim Lee heads in to the final round of the LPGA Tour Kia Classic at the summit of the leaderboard after sharing the lead at the close of the round two.
Lee started round three tied for first place with Morgan Pressel on 10-under, but went on to shoot a six-under 66 to grab pole position on 16-under.
She carded seven birdies and a solitary bogey to take a one shot lead over second-placed Alison Lee.
“I think I’m comfortable. I just think patience, patience, patience,” Lee told AP about her feelings and philosophy ahead of Sunday’s final round.
“I think my putting was best (in round three). It was better than (Friday), so my score was good.”
Lee’s 66 was matched by her name sake, Alison Lee, who shot six birdies and two bogeys to stay in contention.
Japan’s Sakura Yokomine and the USA’s Christie Kerr are tied for third after respective scores of 67 and 68 on Saturday.
The round of the day belonged to Se Ri Pak, who fired eight birdies and stayed bogey-free to card a 64 and equal the course record.
Pak is the second player to match record set by Dori Carter in 2014, with Pressel doing the same in round two.
“I had a shoulder injury last year, and this is my third event. I wasn’t expecting anything, just each week hopefully get better,” Pak said.
“My game is getting together. But until yesterday it wasn’t really great, but today it was happening, so it really helps a lot. It was really fun.”
Pak is tied for fifth with Paula Creamer, Jennifer Song and Lydia Ko, who shot 66, 66 and 67 respectively on day three.
