Grace goes wire-to-wire

Branden Grace cruised to a wire-to-wire win at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship at Leopard Creek on Sunday.

The South African’s final round, a four under 68, was enough to earn an impressive seven shot win over former Masters champion Louis Oosthuizen.

Grace lead from the get go with a superb ten under 62 on day one of the event. He maintained his form for the most part, until a third round 72 saw Lucas Bjerregaard inch to within one stroke for a share of the lead.

But the five time European Tour winner never relinquished the lead and would finish on 20 under for the tournament following his birdie on the final hole.

“It’s been a phenomenal week,” the 26-year-old told europeantour.com, adding that his new driver played a big part in the win.

“I’d like to start by thanking Mrs Rupert and Mr Rupert – this establishment here is just something spectacular.

“It’s been a long year, a hard, year but now it’s a fairytale ending just before Christmas. One of the main things this week has been the driving; I just put a new driver in the bag in Dubai and that’s been the key this week.”

England’s Andrew Johnston would finish by himself in third on 11 under, while Nedbank Challenge winner Danny Willet tied with Trevor Fisher tied for fourth on 10 under.
