Kuchar in the mix at RBC Heritage
Matt Kuchar has kept up his momentum as he earned a share of the lead after the first round of the RBC Heritage on Thursday.
Kuchar, who claimed a solid fifth place at the Masters on the weekend, is back in action at Harbour Town Golf Links. The American carded a five under 66 and shares the lead with fellow countrymen Scott Langley and William McGirt.
The six time PGA Tour winner looked solid on the links course, never dropping a shot and sinking five birdies.
“It was some awfully steady golf,” said the 35-year-old.
“Certainly you’re so tested at the Masters, and you have to be so precise around major championship golf that I think a lot of times guys next week they’re a little more alert, a little more sharp because of the precision required at major championships.
“You have a couple of days to unwind after a major, and then Thursday starts and then you’ve got a chance to play another PGA Tour event. It’s pretty easy to get excited for this.”
The leading trio is followed by Harris English by himself on three under after a 68, and a group of 15 players, including Masters runner-up Jordan Spieth, on two under.
“I was anxious to get back out and play another competitive round of golf,” said Speith, who at 20-years-old, would have been the youngest winner in Augusta’s history.
“So today was going to be kind of therapy, in a sense, from last week, to get back out and try and make some birdies.”
The youngster was paired up with Davis Love III and Tom Watson, the former and current US Ryder Cup captains.
“He spoke some words of wisdom to me, on and off the course,” Spieth said of Watson.
“Obviously talking with him is priceless. Two legends of the game. I’m humbled to play with those guys and the success that they’ve had and the way they’ve handled things on and off the course.
“I only hope one day I can do it half as good as they have.”
