Oosthuizen disappointed

After a great start, Louis Oosthuizen was disappointed with his overall performance at the Masters on the weekend.

The South African was one of six in the field to make the cut and after a first round three under 69, he was in the hunt.

But he slumped to a three over 75 in Friday’s round, hampered by a triple bogey on the par five 15th.

Adding to his woes, the 2010 Open champion woke up with an upset stomach on Saturday, but pushed through the third round to card another 75, putting him out of contention.

“I have no idea what it was, probably just something I ate Saturday morning,” said Oosthuizen, who had to go on a drip.

The Mossel Bay native started Sunday’s final round well and found himself two under through seven holes after birdies on the opening two holes. But he faded somewhat on the back nine.

“I started well and played a good front nine, but then had just a very cold back nine,” said the 31-year-old, who would finish on three over for the tournament.

“I am disappointed as I really wanted to post a number today. Maybe two, three under. I certainly had the opportunity to do it, but I just had a bad back nine,”

“I made two bogeys on 11 and 12 and I am not really going to come back from that.”

“Obviously we all wanted to do well but that is golf. You have those weeks where it just does not happen,” he said, referring to the lack of South African’s in the red numbers at Augusta.

“I am pretty sure the guys (the other South Africans) are very disappointed not to be here on the weekend, but that is how it goes sometimes.”

Meanwhile, the shining star of the weekend was youngster Jordan Spieth who made his debut at Augusta and at one stage was the standalone leader by two shots. The Texan would eventually go down by three shots to the big hitting Bubba Watson.

“Jordan is a great player. I am surprised though that a rookie is doing so well,” said Oosthuizen of the 20-year-old.

“But you know, the class of player he is, he is just playing well. Especially today, with the greens being a little bit softer than yesterday I can see him performing.”
