Haas: We’re thrilled with Phil

Team USA captain Jay Haas revealed that he and his fellow captains are happy to have the experience of Phil Mickelson on the team.

Haas was forced to use a captain's pick on the five-time major winner as he has had a poor 2015 season, thus failing to make the team automatically.

However, Hass revealed that Mickelson brings something to the team that no-one else can, given his ten Presidents Cup appearances.

"I think Phil, the intangibles that he brought to the team maybe put him over the top," Hass told chinadaily.com.

"You could say his play didn't warrant being a consideration and all that, but I don't think you can put a value on what he means to the players and the demeanour he brings into the team room.

"I would say that across the board, the players were all-in when we were texting them and talking to them. The captains, certainly, were all for Phil.

"I guess the way I've been answering, 'Why did you not pick such and such a player?', I don't think there were any negatives to any of the players that we passed over."

Mickelson has not won a trophy since lifting the Claret Jug at the Open Championship in 2013.

The American will team up with Open champion Zach Johnson when they take on Australian duo Jason Day and Steven Bowditch in the foursomes on Thursday at the Jack Nicklaus Golf Club in South Korea.
