The US Open will return to Winged Foot in 2020, where an unforgettable collapse took place the last time it staged the event.

Only two other courses - Oakmont and Baltusrol - will have held the US Open more times than the New York course, where Phil Mickelson blew his best chance ever to win the event in 2006.

The American needed to par the 72nd hole for a one-stroke victory, but after a wayward drive double-bogeyed to give Geoff Ogilvy a one-stroke victory.

During its first US Open in 1929, Bobby Jones delivered one of the biggest shots in championship history with a 12-foot putt on the final hole to force a 36-hole playoff, which he eventually won by 23 shots over Al Espinosa.
