Spanish veteran and Ryder Cup star Miguel Angel Jimenez will be out of action for up to five months after breaking his right leg in a skiing accident.

The 48-year-old fell while on vacation in the Sierra Nevada range of Andalucia in southern Spain.

His tibia was broken just below the knee and the Spaniard was taken to a hospital in Malaga immediately after the incident, where he underwent surgery.

"It will take me three, four or five months to fully recover and play again at a competitive level," Jimenez after completing surgery successfully.

"I have been playing well but that's just the way it goes in life."

He made headlines in November when he became the oldest ever winning on the European Tour with a victory at the Hong Kong Open.
