Quinta do Lago strengthens long-term commitment to junior golf

Having played a prominent role in helping Ricardo Gouveia become Portugal’s highest ever world-ranked golfer, Quinta do Lago is proud of its reputation for developing junior talent, and the Algarve resort is celebrating a new honour after being awarded junior golf club status from the Portuguese Golf Federation.

Offering one of the top junior teaching academies in the country, youngsters will now be able to play and compete under the famous Quinta do Lago name thanks to the decision.

Gouveia, who grew up in Quinta do Lago and still practices there when he is Portugal, is just one of the players to have benefited from training at the venue as a junior, and resort academy manager and head professional José Ferreira is looking forward to the junior programme enjoying further success under its new status.

Ferreira said: “Everyone at the resort has worked very hard over the last decade to establish Quinta do Lago’s as Portugal’s premier teaching academy.

“There are few better feelings as a golfer than representing your home club at a tournament, and to able to now go out and compete under the Quinta do Lago umbrella is something that I’m sure will make all our juniors very proud.”

Home of the Telegraph BMW Junior Golf Championship for the last four years, Quinta do Lago is committed to growing junior golf across the Algarve region and helping youngsters reach their full potential.

With three 18-hole championship golf courses complemented by outstanding practice facilities including a Paul McGinley Golf Academy and TaylorMade Performance Centre – the only one in Southern Europe – Quinta do Lago has everything needed to help a player progress from being a beginner to competing at a national level.

Ferreira added: “Our mission at Quinta do Lago is to increase the number of players, build champions and provide the opportunity for every junior to play golf.

“At the heart of our junior academy programme is the aim to install the fundamentals of the game in all our youngsters so that they can go on and achieve play to the best of their ability.

“As well as working hard with players on the technical side of the game, we also pay great attention to other key aspects such as practice routines, fitness, nutrition and developing the right mental approach to allow them to succeed.”

Featuring an extensive array of luxury real estate, golf and leisure facilities, Quinta do Lago is widely renowned as Europe’s premier golf and lifestyle resort, with a wide selection of luxury facilities and exclusive bars and restaurants available in addition to golf.

A number of high-profile changes to its sports and leisure services – including the much-acclaimed redevelopment of its North Course and the opening of its new Bovino Steakhouse – has seen the resort enjoy major success in recent years and a period of further investment is scheduled in 2017.

Included in the plans for the coming months are the launch of the new Reserva real estate development – offering 26 unique and contemporary lakeside homes set in the heart of Quinta do Lago – and the completion of a professional full-size hybrid sports pitch and 10 new-ITP standard tennis courts (six hard court and four clay) and four padel tennis courts. These will be complemented by the opening of other high-performance facilities including gymnasiums, a swimming pool, extensive cycling amenities and a medical centre.
