Piller extends lead at Texas Shootout
Gerina Piller fired a four-under-par 67 to extend her lead to two strokes at the Volunteers of America Texas Shootout.
Piller, who sits on 14-under, is ahead of the South Korean duo of Amy Yang and Mi Jung Hur as they are in a tie for second on 12-under.
Jenny Shin and Sei Young Kim are in a tie for fourth on 10-under, while world number four Stacy Lewis is 12 strokes adrift of the lead in a tie for 26th.
Piller, who is within touching distance of her first LPGA Tour title, began her round with consecutive birdies at the second and third before making another at the seventh to round off a superb front nine. Despite having a much quieter back nine, during which she only made one birdie, it was enough to give Piller some breathing space on the leaderboard.
Yang, who carded a six-under-par 65, made a lone birdie at the third on the front nine, but she surged up the leaderboard and moved into contention with an impressive back nine, which consisted of five birdies.
Hur is also in contention heading into the final round as she recorded a 66 on Saturday, which began with her making a trio of birdies on the front nine. She maintained her momentum heading into the back nine and added two more birdies to complete a bogey-free round.
Lewis flew up the leaderboard courtesy of her round of 67, but she didn’t get off to the best of starts as she made two birdies and two bogeys on her front nine. Despite her disappointing start, the 2014 champion shifted her game to the next level on her back nine, starting with a hat-trick of birdies from the first to third before proceeding to make two more to wrap up an excellent round.
