European Tour honour for Wood
Last updated: 13th February 2013
Chris Wood's closing eagle to win the Qatar Masters has earned him the European Tour's Golfer of the Month award for January.
The Bristol 25-year-old hit a drive and six-iron to 12 feet to claim his maiden Tour title by one shot from Sergio Garcia and George Coetzee.
"It meant so much and winning was a big step forward for my career," Wood said.
"I now know that I can get into contention and beat a lot of the best players in the world coming down the stretch, so I hope to take a lot of confidence from that going forward."
The victory also saw him qualify for next week's Accenture Match Play Championship in Arizona, where he is set to play stablemate Lee Westwood in the opening round just as he did on his debut in 2010. Westwood won that 3&1.
