An ill Bubba Watson has been forced to pull out of the Farmers Insurance Open shortly before the start of the opening round.

Watson, who won the tournament at Torrey Pines in 2011, was paired with Phil Mickelson and defending FedExCup champion Brandt Snedeker in the first two rounds, but he was unable to make it to the tee.

The 34-year-old admitted that he didn't feel well during the Hyundai Tournament of Champions as he was unable to keep his food down before the final round and he once again had the same symptoms on Thursday.

"Pulling out of tourney this morning, don't have energy for golf. Feel the same as Maui. Got to say thanks to my peeps for the prayers!" the Masters champion wrote on Twitter.

"Wife and I are sick, hope little man doesn't get it. Time to rest and be ready to play next week."

Billy Mayfair will replace his American compatriot in the field.
