Defending champion Robert Rock has pulled out of the Abu Dhabi Championship due to illness, organisers have confirmed.

The 35-year-old Brition started the defence of his title with a four-over-par 76 at the Abu Dhabi Golf Club on day one, but he was forced to withdraw prior to the start of the second round on Friday.

He played alongside Justin Rose, who shared the lead after 18 holes, and Ernie Els in the opening round.
