The experienced Stricker is playing some of the best golf of his career at present and arrives at the year's final major with two wins under his belt already. The first came after he won a three-man play-off at Colonial while the second, the week before the Open at Turnberry, was a three-shot victory at the John Deere Classic following a final round 64. Stricker has been knocking at the door in majors in recent years (he has five top eight finishes in the last four seasons) but he's never come closer to winning one than at this event in 1998. Stricker got himself right into contention at Sahalee in Washington but Vijay Singh produced a back nine surge to edge him out by two shots. After a spell in the doldrums, during which he missed the cut at Hazeltine in 2002, Stricker goes into this year's event ranked second on the US Money List ($4,200,086) and second in the FedEx Cup standings. He's also No.1 for scrambling and second in scoring average so there's every reason to expect Stricker to feature prominently on the leaderboard.
