For a long while there were suspicions that Stenson's game was unsuited to playing in the majors. In his first 13 starts he rarely looked comfortable and posted a best finish of 14th. Made his major breakthrough at the Open in 2008, finishing in the top three at Royal Birkdale and followed that up with a tie for fourth at last year's USPGA and a top 10 at this year's US Open. He won the 2007 WGC Accenture World Matchplay and had 10 top-10 finishes last season, partnering Robert Karlsson to a Swedish victory in the Omega Mission Hills World Cup. Stepped up a division with a four-shot victory over Ian Poulter in the Players Championship, a win that saw him climb to a career-high fifth in the world. He is currently ranked seventh and the 36-year-old from Gothenburg is surely a major winner of the not too distant future.
