Sergio Garcia

Twice a runner-up in this event but Sergio's form going to Hazeltine is a concern.

Unless something dramatic happens very soon 2009 will go down as the worst year of Sergio Garcia's career and yet it promised to be so different. He ended 2008 on a high with three wins (including the Players' title - the so-called fifth major) and had become so consistent there was genuine reason to believe he could claim Tiger Woods' number one spot in the world rankings (albeit whilst the great man was injured). But since the Spaniard left the Middle East in January his year has been little short of disastrous. He has failed to contend in any of the World Championship events, was awful at Augusta and Turnberry and even struggled in his defence of the Players' at Sawgrass, a course he usually thrives on. He did make the top ten at Bethpage Black in the US Open but it was his only top ten since Doha. He has a solid record in the PGA Championship (once second, twice third) but, on the other hand, he has memories of being trumped for a second time in a major by Padraig Harrington last year to deal with. On current form you'd be surprised if he won this week.
