Scott has long been held up by some as the man to challenge Tiger Woods' present hegemony of the game, but the Australian is still awaiting the major breakthrough that would do so much to add weight to those claims. Supremely gifted with an effortless swing, Scott has proved he can win big with a Players Championship and a Tour Championship already to his name. He has had two wins this season - at the Qatar Masters and Byron Nelson Championship - but, despite some flashes of promise, his game has not looked in its best shape recently, although he did manage a top-20 finish at Birkdale. Tied for third at the USPGA at Medinah in 2006, which remains his best major finish, and notched another top-10 in this same championship at Whistling Straits in 2004. Scott has the game to win any major and could easily contend this week if he can put it all together, but whether he does still remains, frustratingly so, anyone's guess.
