The Redstone Golf Club which this week will host the Shell Houston Open, is set in a wooded oasis, just 15 miles from downtown Houston and features a member's course and a tournament course which many Texans believe is destined to become the premier showcase for golf in the area and is now open to the public.

The club's elegant 33,000-square-foot rock and glass clubhouse features two Pro Shops, one for members only, with exclusive golf merchandise, apparel and special Shell Houston Open gifts and memorabilia.

It also features up-market dining areas and a bar, luxurious locker rooms, and an outdoor terrace with breathtaking golf course vistas that are perfect for wining, dining and entertaining.

The First Tee/Redstone at the club is a par 3 course designed by Rees Jones complete with learning and practice facilities and is dedicated to providing young people with life-enhancing values such as honesty, integrity and sportsmanship through golf and character education.

COURSE DETAILS:

The Tournament Course

Redstone Golf Club's new Tournament Course is one of only 11 courses in the USA that is open to the public and hosts a PGA Tour event.

Varying in length between 5,200 and 7,550 yards, the course features Mini Verdie greens and Tif Sport fairways and tees.

It was designed by the legendary Rees Jones with PGA Tour Professional David Toms serving as his course design consultant.

Since 1964, Rees Jones has designed or redesigned more than 100 golf courses, many widely recognized as being among the very best in the game and a number of them have been selected as sites for major national and international tournaments, partly because they are seen as being straightforward, yet challenging.

The Tournament Course is uniquely free from any housing development, leaving its users with a feeling of being well away from the hustle and bustle of city life.

TOURNAMENT COURSE RATES:

Monday - Sunday: $175.00 for 18 holes; Twilight: $125.00*

Includes golf, cart, practice range and forecaddie fee. A forecaddie accompanies all groups and is part of The Tournament Course experience.

A recommended forecaddie gratuity is $25.00 per player which can be paid before or after your play.

*Your forecaddie requirement does not apply during twilight.

THE MEMBERS COURSE

It's no wonder that Fred Couples, who won the Shell Houston Open here in 2003 and is playing here again this week, said of it. "I loved this course from the start".

PGA and Champions Tour professional Peter Jacobsen and Designer Jim Hardy have won acclaim for their innovative yet traditionally designed golf courses that are renowned for offering a challenge without sacrificing enjoyment.

Jacobsen and Hardy synthesized their individual golf talents and experiences to create this unique course at Redstone Golf Club with a variety of challenges, degrees of difficulty, creative tee placements, and shot options.

The 7,508-yard, par 72 Jacobsen/Hardy Course is surrounded by five acres of natural wetlands. lakes and native wildlife and features TifEagle greens and TifSport fairways with strategic bunkering, manicured fairways and smooth, true greens.

Pro Shops:

Redstone has two full-service pro shops featuring all the favorite golf apparel, equipment and specialty gift items, including official Shell Houston Open merchandise.

Each pro shop offers a distinct selection, friendly and knowledgeable staff, complimentary gift wrap, and a merchandise specialist who can help you customize a corporate gift packages for your next golf outing.

The Tournament Course Pro Shop is open to the public, and the Member Pro Shop is available for Redstone Golf Club Members and their guests.

The club also offers an on-line pro shop that will ship your purchases right to your door. It is open 24 hours a day.

Practice Facilities

The Member Course and Tournament Courses share a 31,000 square foot teeing area for a double-ended driving range featuring nine target areas ranging from 100-300 yards, and an extensive short game and practice area.

Players Grill:

Settle your bets after your round in the Players Grill at the Clubhouse, where you'll find delicious food and drinks, plasma-screen televisions and memorabilia from Houston's only PGA Tour stop, the Shell Houston Open.

MEMBERSHIP:

Limited to a maximum of 525 members, it offers play on both the Members and Tournament courses, the practice facilities mentioned above, complimentary playing privileges at three other championship courses: The Houstonian Golf & Country Club and both the North and South Courses at BlackHorse Golf Club.

It also provides its members with their own luxurious member-only men's and women's locker rooms with a relaxing lounge and a member only pro-shop.
