NEVILLE LECK: NORMAN CLIMBS DOWN ON TIGER STANCE
21-11-2011 10:47
Greg Norman has been made to climb down on his pre-President Cup statement that Tiger Woods did not deserve his place in the United State team.
Since the solid deafeat of his Internationals, that previous statement has been forgotten.
The man who, in his hey day as the World No 1 was known as 'The great White Shark', admits that Woods stepped up to the plate at Royal Melbourne, is suggestin...

HARRY THE HAT: DAY-VID AND GOLIATH
25-02-2011 13:21
If you were ever unsure about the unpredictable nature of Match Play the first two rounds should have put your mind at rest.
We've seen long and short matches, high and low scores, old and young winners, bombers and plodders, high and low ranked winners, experienced players and rookies progressing and the winners from a host of different nationalities.
Who knows how long a match will last?...

DAVE TINDALL: AUGUSTA ON MY MIND - PART 2
10-12-2010 12:43
In part one, I discussed the merits of the ante-post Masters punt and listed some of the successful winners from years gone by.
So now it's time to turn to the 2011 event and get some bets on.
The price that sticks out like a sore thumb as being unexpectedly high must be the 50/1 about Graeme McDowell.
The Northern Irisman has enjoyed an extraordinary 2010 and climbed to w...

MATT COOPER: RETURNING TO WREKIN
24-11-2010 10:27
My love of golf owes much to watching the old World Matchplay Championship - great golfers going head-to-head between the golden autumnal trees of the West Course at Wentworth.
Inspired by the television pictures, and also motivated by the fact that two local boys (Ian Woosnam and Sandy Lyle) were major winners, I decided to try the game for myself. So I ended up at Wrekin GC in Wellington, Shr...

MATTHEW FREEMANTLE: DRUG PROBLEM
14-10-2008 17:21
Now a few months on from Gary Player's outlandish claim that he knew of at least 10 players taking drugs on tour, there is still no testing I have heard of.
Certainly, Player is a thunder-stealing egomaniac at the best of times. He has been doing it for years, from claiming to be the adult with the most air miles in history to scrabbling around for the praise when a young South African wins somet...

NEVILLE LECK: DONALD GROWING IN STATURE
24-10-2011 08:31
Luke Donald is no Tiger Woods and never will be, if only because he lacks the explosive power that saw Woods blast his way into the headlines at an early age and then go on to majestically dominate golf for more than a decade.
And, of course, Donald has yet to win a major, whereas the Tiger won 14 before scandal, injuries and swing changes saw his career grind to a halt and a new band of World...

HARRY THE HAT: MORE OF THE SAME!
24-02-2011 10:10
After a lucky nine winners (seven outsiders) and three losers (two favourites) yesterday let's see if lightning can strike twice and have a look at today's 16 second round matches.
The course is long (7,800 yards) and should favour long hitters but at 3,500 feet above sea level it doesn't play that long and accurate players are always difficult to beat as they rarely give a hole away.
In r...

DAVE TINDALL: AUGUSTA ON MY MIND - PART 1
08-12-2010 10:26
A couple of people on Twitter this week have been asking my opinion on next year's US Masters.
Initially I thought they were jumping the gun a bit - especially with so many golf tournaments, however silly, to bet on at the moment.
But then it slowly dawned on me that my four most memorable Masters bets have all been ante-post wagers struck way in advance of the tournament.
Some of the pri...

MATTHEW FREEMANTLE: EASTERN PROMISES
07-10-2008 13:28
The Middle East has been attracting America for years. Its vast oil supply has been of particular interest to the US Government. Partly as a result, that region is now more appealing than ever to US golfers.
It is ironic that America's own spending on Middle Eastern oil, which in turn has enabled the region in general - and Dubai in particular - to construct first world cities in the desert, is n...

NEVILLE LECK: HOW GOOD IS SEAN FOLEY?
16-09-2011 13:36
Justin Rose is not only in a position to secure his place in the last 30 that next week will contest the Tour Championship in the FedEx Cup finale, he may also be set to start changing the perceptions some of Sean Foley's detractors have about the Canadian swing coach.
Foley has been overseeing Tiger Woods' latest swing change for the past year, and even though Woods has been out of golf with a...
