AUGUSTA ON MY MIND - PART 2

10-12-2010 12:43

In part one, I discussed the merits of the ante-post Masters punt and listed some of the successful winners from years gone by.

So now it's time to turn to the 2011 event and get some bets on.

The price that sticks out like a sore thumb as being unexpectedly high must be the 50/1 about Graeme McDowell.

The Northern Irisman has enjoyed an extraordinary 2010 and climbed to w...

AUGUSTA ON MY MIND - PART 1

08-12-2010 10:26

A couple of people on Twitter this week have been asking my opinion on next year's US Masters.

Initially I thought they were jumping the gun a bit - especially with so many golf tournaments, however silly, to bet on at the moment.

But then it slowly dawned on me that my four most memorable Masters bets have all been ante-post wagers struck way in advance of the tournament.

Some of the pri...

GOLF365 PLAYS ROYAL LYTHAM

24-11-2010 12:50

Royal Lytham and St Annes GC has a long and illustrious history.

Established in 1886 it has hosted 10 Open Championships and two Ryder Cups.

Some of the greatest names in the game have made their reputations winning on this initially unprepossessing piece of Lancashire soil wedged between red-brick houses and the railway.

In 1926 Bobby Jones conjured a brilliant 175-yard escape on the pen...

GOLF WITH JUDAS PRIEST GUITAR HERO

24-11-2010 12:49

The story of how Matt and I came to be playing on the private golf course of Grammy winner KK Downing appeared on these pages 12 months ago, writes Dave Tindall.

To summarise, KK had purchased Astbury Hall in Shropshire in the mid-80s and after renovation work had decided in recent years to build hi...

THE GROVE - GOLFING INDULGENCE

24-11-2010 12:48

Shortly after checking into my five-star room, I looked out from the balcony to the course where Tiger Woods won the 2006 WGC American Express Championship and watched a member of the San Francisco 49ers American Football team walk by.

No, this isn't one of Walter Mitty's diary entries, it really is happening. I'll explain. I'm a welcome guest at The Grove in Watford.

I've only been here fi...

HOME ADVANTAGE

26-10-2010 13:42

The PGA Tour has already travelled to Canada, Mexico and Puerto Rico in 2010 but this week it breaks new ground with a first ever sanctioned event in Asia.

The CIMB Asia Pacific Classic Malaysia isn't quite a full-blown affair though with earnings not counting towards the US Money List, no halfway cut and a limited field of 40 players.

A look at the betting suggests it's a rather rando...

ON THE CASE

17-07-2010 21:59

The picture became much clearer at St Andrews on Saturday.
And while we don't know his identity yet, it's a virtual certainty that we'll have a new name on the trophy on Sunday evening.
Tiger Woods, 12 shots back after a second successive 73, has blown his chance. And the nearest other former holders of the Claret Jug are veterans Mark Calcavecchia and Tom Lehman, who are 13 shots in arrears.
S...

SWINGS OF FORTUNE

16-07-2010 21:37

Imagine if Rory McIlroy had been told this before the Open started. You'll shoot 63 on day one but finish day two 11 shots off the lead.
It would sound like a stupid nightmare he'd had between the two rounds but, in truth, it's stone cold reality.
And it means, the young Northern Irishman still hasn't shot in the 70s at St Andrews. Although carding an 80 was not the way he would have wanted to k...

RORY HAS ALL THE ANSWERS

15-07-2010 20:36

Rory McIlroy's precocious talents were on full show on day one of the Open at St Andrews as he roared into a two-shot lead after a stunning nine-under 63.
And yet, despite matching the lowest score ever recorded in a major, I ended the day feeling just as impressed by McIlroy the person.
I have absolutely no doubt that the 21-year-old will be called into the press tent's interview room on each o...

A SENIORS MOMENT - FINAL UPDATE

23-06-2010 18:25

Dave Tindall tells the tale of his dodgy performance in The De Vere Collection PGA Seniors Championship pro-am at Slaley Hall and tracks the progress of his pro partner John Harrison:

John Harrison - final update:

John started the day in tied 12th and finished it in tied 12th after a one-over 73 on Sunday.

Playing the first three holes in two over didn't bode well but he finally m...
