Time to have another boy Dave........and share the tips!

Surely Charlie Hoffmann's presence on tour makes this story irrelevant?

No McDowell? Do you think what Quiros has achieved in the past 5 months is about to end? Compare these to what Rose and Poulter have achieved in the same time. Yes, experience is important, but the team will not be formed for another 18 months. The likes of Rose and Poulter need to watch over their shoulders for these two and perhaps another couple who just might break through in this timeframe. Time will tell I guess.

Marino will get your money back if you stick with him each way for the season. I like the look of another 3 however. Brian Gay (70's) good start to season and scoring average better by 2 shots to last year, Ken Duke (90's)threatened to win in the Autumn, and one player who will come good again and I don't want to miss out on his big price when he does. A former winner of the FBR, Chris DiMarco (100's). Best of luck!

Louis Oosthuizen must get it right this week surely? Also a nice 100/1 shot in Brett Rumford.....one of the best short games around and knows how to play in the wind, which more often than not picks up in Dubai. I also have my eye on Gonzalo Castagno who had a nice 67, 69 finish last week. Available at 60's

Without a Top Ten on the European Tour or the PGA Tour since the Open, I think Poulter should start here before thinking of competing in the Majors.

Steve Webster this week???

2 in a row! Nice.

Fair comment on Player but I think testing has been implemented. I read recently that Monty has been tested at least twice and Kenny Perry up to 4 times on the PGA tour. It might be a good idea for the two Tours to publish the number of tests at each event, not necessarily who was tested.

Credit where it's due...........good shout on Schwartzel! Its not easy to pick winners anymore on the European Tour with anyone of 10 to 20 players giving good cause to be backed each week. How about keeping a table on the site........Dave's tips, wins and losses? Or a mini fantasy league for readers. Say tips over a 6 week period with points for a win, top 5 and top 10. Winner after each 6 week "season" wins a wooden tee!

I smell a rat. Faldo will face some scrutiny if Poulter gets a pick ahead of Clarke.

Rosco
Posted 26/08/2008 @ 09:28

Thats a good idea but not sure if Monty and Faldo could work together. At least as a player Monty would have some distance from Faldo. That said, I agree Monty is nowhere near in form for a wildcard and should privately phone Faldo and admit as much rather than Faldo taking any (and it would be unwarranted) backlash from other players/press for not picking him. Is the door still open for McGinley to assume the vice captaincy position?

Rosco

I think Casey has done enough. While he hasn't won, he has shown strong form over the past few weeks. A top 5 from Clarke next week will nudge out Poulter who in truth has lost all momentum since Brikdale. It would not surprise me if Europe changes the qualification system again. Certainly Azingers choice of 4 gives more flexibility to choose form players. Any news on Faldo's vice captains? Has McGinley been officially replaced since his resignation or is the door open for him to comeback? Then again he could go and win at Gleneagles!!! 4 Irish players in team? Certainly been a great year for Irish golf with Lawrie and McGrane winning this year also.

I would agree with Paul Lawrie. Monty has said he skipped this week to put in some serious practice ahead of Gleneagles. If this is the case, then only a win there will bring him into the reckoning, not necessarily a pick though. Rose is faltering in Holland as I type this, he may need a pick, when he should realy be automatically qualifying. It's looking like 2 from Casey, Poulter, Rose, Monty, Petterson (!!) and Clarke. I would take Casey and Clarke from this list. Casey for his US experience (nice start to the Barclays also) and Clarke for his combination with Westwood. Clarke too is going nicely at the KLM.

Just a pity the Masters was not a few weeks earlier.......and finished on March 17th!. Surely golf "canonisation" then for Saint Padraig!

Rosco
Posted 11/08/2008 @ 01:04

What an achievement! A truly world class performer. When it was said his 2007 Carnoustie win may open the floodgates for more european major wins........Padraig had other ideas........he opened the gates for himself! I hope all the 2007 begrudgers stay hiding under the rocks they climbed into after Birkdale. 3 Majors won by Harrington, not lost by anybody. Come back soon Tiger...........there's a gauntlet waiting on the 1st tee at the Masters! Congrats Padraig.

I have also backed DiMarco.......but to say the details are dull and he is making more of a shoulder turn.......is more to do with recovery from shoulder surgery last September than tweaks from his swing coach. Peter Lonard at 130/1.......get on it!!

Rosco

A little sideline bet on Reno Tahoe on David Duval at 150/1 is worth a little flutter!!

Rosco
Posted 29/07/2008 @ 13:49

To say only Woods and Clarke have won this event is incorrect. Stewart Cink (2004) and Craig Parry (2002) have also won this event. Cink at Firestone and Parry at Sahalee, Washington.

Certainly a a great year for Irish golf! Congratulations girls and best of luck in Kentucky.

Maybe Dave should keep a chart of his tips and their successes or lack of?

Rosco

Along with McGinley, I would go with Jeev Milkha Singh at 50's........solid season and well capable of coping with the tropical Irish weather!
