3 in a row for Tindall (Schwartzel, Quiros, Garcia). Looking forward to his Valderamma tips! By the way where's Neville Lock gone?
The editor says.... Right you are - I had forgotten about Schwartzel. Be sure to check in for Tindall's tips for the Volvo Masters on Wednesday. The Neviller is taking a well-deserved break, visiting his family in the States. He'll be back in three weeks - after hitting as many courses as possible, no doubt...
Steve Webster this week???
2 in a row! Nice.
Fair comment on Player but I think testing has been implemented. I read recently that Monty has been tested at least twice and Kenny Perry up to 4 times on the PGA tour. It might be a good idea for the two Tours to publish the number of tests at each event, not necessarily who was tested.
Credit where it's due...........good shout on Schwartzel! Its not easy to pick winners anymore on the European Tour with anyone of 10 to 20 players giving good cause to be backed each week. How about keeping a table on the site........Dave's tips, wins and losses? Or a mini fantasy league for readers. Say tips over a 6 week period with points for a win, top 5 and top 10. Winner after each 6 week "season" wins a wooden tee!
I smell a rat. Faldo will face some scrutiny if Poulter gets a pick ahead of Clarke.
Thats a good idea but not sure if Monty and Faldo could work together. At least as a player Monty would have some distance from Faldo. That said, I agree Monty is nowhere near in form for a wildcard and should privately phone Faldo and admit as much rather than Faldo taking any (and it would be unwarranted) backlash from other players/press for not picking him. Is the door still open for McGinley to assume the vice captaincy position?
Now that Neville has put me up on a pedastal (of course to be shot down!)here are some more wise words......Casey 1/4 to make Ryder Team.........get on it!
The editor says.... You were proved right Rosco. Well done!
I think Casey has done enough. While he hasn't won, he has shown strong form over the past few weeks. A top 5 from Clarke next week will nudge out Poulter who in truth has lost all momentum since Brikdale. It would not surprise me if Europe changes the qualification system again. Certainly Azingers choice of 4 gives more flexibility to choose form players. Any news on Faldo's vice captains? Has McGinley been officially replaced since his resignation or is the door open for him to comeback? Then again he could go and win at Gleneagles!!! 4 Irish players in team? Certainly been a great year for Irish golf with Lawrie and McGrane winning this year also.
I would agree with Paul Lawrie. Monty has said he skipped this week to put in some serious practice ahead of Gleneagles. If this is the case, then only a win there will bring him into the reckoning, not necessarily a pick though. Rose is faltering in Holland as I type this, he may need a pick, when he should realy be automatically qualifying. It's looking like 2 from Casey, Poulter, Rose, Monty, Petterson (!!) and Clarke. I would take Casey and Clarke from this list. Casey for his US experience (nice start to the Barclays also) and Clarke for his combination with Westwood. Clarke too is going nicely at the KLM.
Just a pity the Masters was not a few weeks earlier.......and finished on March 17th!. Surely golf "canonisation" then for Saint Padraig!
What an achievement! A truly world class performer. When it was said his 2007 Carnoustie win may open the floodgates for more european major wins........Padraig had other ideas........he opened the gates for himself! I hope all the 2007 begrudgers stay hiding under the rocks they climbed into after Birkdale. 3 Majors won by Harrington, not lost by anybody. Come back soon Tiger...........there's a gauntlet waiting on the 1st tee at the Masters! Congrats Padraig.
I have also backed DiMarco.......but to say the details are dull and he is making more of a shoulder turn.......is more to do with recovery from shoulder surgery last September than tweaks from his swing coach. Peter Lonard at 130/1.......get on it!!
A little sideline bet on Reno Tahoe on David Duval at 150/1 is worth a little flutter!!
To say only Woods and Clarke have won this event is incorrect. Stewart Cink (2004) and Craig Parry (2002) have also won this event. Cink at Firestone and Parry at Sahalee, Washington.
Certainly a a great year for Irish golf! Congratulations girls and best of luck in Kentucky.
Hmmm good thinking........ but perhaps I should have put 12 players in my team!. Time to shelve my application for Captaincy!
The editor says.... Oops! I missed it too
An ideal team would be Westwood, Karlsson, Jimenez, McDowell, Harrington, Stenson, Garcia, Poulter, Donald and Kaymer. I notice Monty is grabbing all the headlines interms of his form/captain's pick. No mention of Darren Clarke who has a win this year and while not playing brilliantly at the moment is certainly in equal if not better form than Monty. The Clarke / Westwood combo should not be underestimated. Perhaps then Clarke over Donald in the above team.

The editor says.... Good thinking, Rosco
Such has Tiger's impact on the game been that whoever wins the next two majors and perhaps more relevant the Fedex Cup will be known as the player to win it in Tiger's absence. There is no doubting he was not guaranteed the Majors, but the Fedex Cup had his name on it again for sure. I still believe however, that he will be back before the year's end......maybe even in time for the Fedex playoffs. I don't know how anyone could not be a fan of Tiger's though......like Jordan, Maradona, Ali, Federer, Senna.....the master of his craft and perhaps even the greatest across all sports. Just glad to see it unfold before me and not relying on footage of bygone years.
Maybe Dave should keep a chart of his tips and their successes or lack of?
Along with McGinley, I would go with Jeev Milkha Singh at 50's........solid season and well capable of coping with the tropical Irish weather!
Taurus, can you post a link to the rules on how a Major should be run? Masters lose it's Major Status?? Dream on! Monty has known the criteria for qualification.....and has had plenty of tournaments in which to meet that qualification. Sour grapes, just like some years ago (late 90's) when his Order of Merit position was under threat when the last qualifying tournament offered a prize to the winner of circa 1m......all tournaments counted irrespective of whether the prize fund was high at the beginning, middle and end of the season. If No. 74 or 76 in the world were invited ahead of him, he would find an excure to moan. Great player, don't get me wrong, but no divine right for an invitation. Current form would see him pack his bags on Friday week anyway.
Dear Ed, A couple of points on Johnsons win in Augusta......I think he has the qualities to win again on the PGA tour, but a major is very difficult to achieve given the quality of players at each tournament. Incidentally I beleive Rich Beem has shown some form over the back end of last season and this to indicate he may win on tour again. Secondly a correction to your editorial........Johnson did lose a match at the K Club in the last Ryder Cup....surprising you forgot this as it was probably one of the more memorable scenes of the tournament.......Darren Clarke winning 3&2 on the 16th green in Sunday's singles. Rosco.
The editor says.... You are quite right, Rosco. Johnson did lose to Darren Clarke. I should have remembered.

I wonder if he would agree with Noren and Quiros for a place and Harrington for the win.
